Glee star Jane Lynch has signed on to host the 2011 Primetime Emmy Awards.
Already an Emmy winner, she will take charge of the 63rd annual prizegiving at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on 18 September (11).
The thrilled comedienne/actress says, "I am tickled pink... I’m looking forward to singing, dancing and sporting my finest tracksuit."
Lynch plays tough, tracksuit-wearing cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester in Glee.
Emmys producer Mark Burnett insists Lynch was his first choice to host the awards: "Jane was my first - and only - choice as the host for this year’s Primetime Emmys, and I am glad she said yes. She has incredible comedic timing, and is a charismatic, talented actress whose energy leaps off the screen and stage. I am thrilled and excited to have her as our host."
It will mark the first time the show has had a solo female host since Ellen DeGeneres took charge of the Emmys in 2005.
Lynch landed the Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series honour at the Emmys for her role in Glee.
