Jane Fonda has begged surgeons who will be removing her hip in the coming weeks to let her have the bone as a mantlepiece memento.

The actress will undergo a hip-replacement operation after struggling with pain brought on by a genetic disorder, and she desperately wants to keep what's removed.

She explains, "When they take my hip joint out, I wanted them to bleach it and dry it and give it to me so I could put it on my mantlepiece and kiss it every day: 'Thanks for getting me this far,' but they can't do it."

Fonda, who has opted to have a ceramic and titanium replacement hip, says she can't wait to have the op.

She adds, "I can't wait to be put to sleep. By the time that happens I'm going to be so tired and so ready to go under."
