James Yorkston 'Moving Up Country' Reissue Out Monday The 23rd Of April 2012

Back in 2002, Domino released James Yorkston & the Athletes' debut, Moving Up Country. Instantly adored by the press and discerning listening public at the time, it has constantly attracted new fans over the intervening decade with its genuinely timeless sound and impeccable songcraft.

Part of Fife's Fence Collective (that also includes fellow Domino artist King Creosote - who appears on this album contributing accordion and vocals), James Yorkston was immediately acclaimed by such luminaries John Peel and John Martyn. But part of what has made Moving Up Country so loved and passed around, such a classic word of mouth musical story, is its immediacy, simplicity and warm beauty. The album was recorded in a damp cottage in the Scottish borders with a backing band comprised of friends, yet has influenced countless other folk musicians, while James Yorkston himself has gone on to release five further acclaimed records.

Yorkston was dubbed "the finest songwriter of his generation" by John Peel, and was also invited to record a Peel Session, which was first broadcast in January 2003. This is included in full on the new deluxe edition, as well as previously unheard demos and the 2002 Domino single, "The Lang Toun".

He will also be celebrating the 10 year anniversary by playing the record in full (as well as a selection of other songs from his long and impressive career) at a number of venues across the UK

This 10th Anniversary Edition of Moving Up Country, released on Monday the 23rd of April 2012, consists of two discs. Disc 1 features the original album, now with the legendary hard to find stand alone debut Domino single The Lang Toun; Disc 2 is a collection of 'Moving Up Country' demos, including never heard before demos and the aforementioned Peel session originally broadcast on Jan 2nd 2003. The double vinyl edition features all tracks from disc 1 with digital downloads of the bonus tracks.
