The Cold Feet star was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the monarch's 2016 New Year Honours, and he will be presented with the award at a ceremony later this year (16).

However, he was almost removed from the list of recipients after accidentally ticking a box on his acceptance letter stating he wanted to decline the offer.

James hurriedly explained to royal courtiers that it was a mistake, and now he is looking forward to collecting the honour at Buckingham Palace in front of his daughters Peggy and Mary.

He tells U.K. talk show host Graham Norton, "My dad said, 'About b**ody time!' but I am really excited. I got a phone call from a very jolly lady at Buckingham Palace asking if I wanted to decline the honour - apparently I had ticked the wrong box! It will be a nice day out at the Palace for me and my girls."

James was given an OBE for services to drama and to communities in his native Northern Ireland, where he is a patron of a charity helping victims of The Troubles.
