The Godfather star filed for divorce from his fourth wife, Linda Stokes, at the start of 2015, and they have been locked in a bitter battle over finances ever since.

Linda, who was married to the actor for 19 years, sought to increase the child support payments she currently receives for their two children, Jacob and James, back in January (16), but Caan insisted he could not afford the fees.

The 76-year-old claimed he was suffering from various medical issues and wanted to retire, but was having to continue working to satisfy Linda's demands.

Caan also alleges he took on his recent projects just for the money, and they have ruined his once stellar Hollywood reputation.

"I am no longer willing to take parts in films and/or television shows which detract from the 50 years I have spent building my reputation," he stated in court papers in January obtained by TMZ.com.

One of the movies Caan regrets signing on for was Canadian horror Sicilian Vampire, in which he co-starred with Daryl Hannah. He recalls only 50 people showed up for the New York City premiere, which he insisted in court documents was "humiliating".

Now, the Oscar-nominated star has been ordered by a judge to hand over $400,000 (£320,000) to Linda for retroactive spousal support, child support, and to split their property and business holdings.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ.com on Friday (16Dec16), Caan also has to pay $3,124 (£2,500) per month in child support until their youngest son finishes high school next year (17).

In addition to the child support, he has to pay Linda at least $5,000 (£4,000) per month in spousal support until she remarries, or either of them die.

However, Caan does get to keep his expensive fine art pieces, and retains ownership of his prized horse.

The actor also has three other children from previous marriages, including Hawaii Five-O star Scott Caan.
