Soul legend James Brown will be immortalised in bronze when a life-size statue is erected in his honour in his hometown of Augusta, Maine.

The tribute will be unveiled on 6 May (05) - three days after the veteran singer celebrates his 72nd birthday.

The town's mayor BOB YOUNG says, "There is absolutely no question that James Brown is an icon in entertainment.

"He's the most famous person to come out of Augusta - he's an icon. This is a way for us to share that with visitors to Augusta, to give them a James Brown experience."

Brown and his former road manager, Reverend Al Sharpton, are expected to attend the unveiling.
