Two trustees of James Brown's estate have resigned over the late soul singer's finances. One estate manager, Brown's former close friend Buddy Dallas, quit during a court hearing on Tuesday (20Nov07), shortly after David Cannon, another former trustee, was held in contempt for failing to pay $373,000 (GBP186,500) to the estate. Administrators looking into the handling of Brown's estate previously claimed Cannon may have misappropriated a $7 million (GBP3.5 million) chunk of the soul man's fortune. Brown's six adult children have been fighting with the trustees since their father died on Christmas Day (25Dec07). They claim money has been mismanaged. In court in South Carolina on Tuesday, Cannon was also reprimanded for failing to provide adequate financial records and failure to comply with an order to cease as a trustee after tending his resignation. Cannon's stepson added to the drama when he verbally protested a call to examine the family's finances. He was led out of the courtroom in handcuffs.
