The Georgia Music Hall of Fame, which has honoured stars including James Brown, Little Richard and Otis Redding, is to close next month (Jun11) due to budget cuts.
The state-funded museum was opened in 1996, but visitor numbers have dwindled in recent years and officials have now decided to close the facility.
The music memorabilia will be transferred to other local institutions, including the University of Georgia and various state colleges, and the Hall of Fame will close on 12 June (11).
The museum's executive director, Lisa Love, tells Reuters, "Locally, the people are heartbroken".
