With Sony Bravia television sets piling up at distribution warehouses, the yen rising against the dollar, and the lack of Spider-Man on its movie roster, Sony's net profit dropped 95 percent in its third quarter, the company announced Thursday. The company reported a net profit of $115.6 million versus $2.62 billion during the same quarter a year ago. Gross revenue fell 25 percent to $23.7 billion. Sony Pictures, thanks principally to DVD sales for Quantum of Solace , the studio's latest James Bond epic, actually showed a 6 percent rise in U.S. dollars -- but by the time those dollars were converted to yen, the movie unit had to report a 22-percent quarterly decline from the previous year.
