James Bond star Rory Kinnear has been tipped to take over as the next Doctor Who.

The British actor, who appeared in Quantum of Solace and Skyfall, has been named as the bookmakers' favourite to replace Matt Smith in the cult sci-fi Tv show when he steps down after this year's (13) Christmas special.

Bookies had previously named Ben Daniels as the frontrunner for the coveted job, but Kinnear is now clear favourite as bosses at Ladbrokes suspended bets on his appointment amid rumours he has been formally offered the job.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes tells the Daily Mirror, "Kinnear has been a popular punt (bet) but after a flurry of activity pushed him into favourite, we closed the book (suspended bets)."

The Time Lord has previously been played by actors including David Tennant, Christopher Eccleston, Sylvester MCCoy and Colin Baker.
