A pistol from a James Bond movie has sold at auction for £277,250.
The weapon - a Walther air pistol - was used in promotional shots featuring star Sean Connery for the 1963 film 'From Russia With Love' and was only expected to reach between £15,000 and £20,000 when it went on sale at Christie's auction house in London yesterday (25.11.10).
Another James Bond pistol, which appeared in 1974 film 'The Man With The Golden Gun', sold for £15,000 at the Popular Culture: Film and Entertainment sale.
Meanwhile a Darth Vader costume - which had been expected to fetch up to £230,000 - failed to sell.
The costume - believed to have been used in the second 'Star Wars' film 'The Empire Strikes Back' was removed from auction after disappointing bids.
The outfit, which was being sold by a private collector from the US is thought to have been the first complete Darth Vader costume to be offered for sale.
Other items sold yesterday included a dinosaur model from the 1933 King Kong film for £25,000 and a metal box containing the glowing red eye of the computer HAL from the movie '2001: A Space Odyssey' which sold for £17,500.
