James Blunt talks to his soldier friends if he's having a bad day - because he is reminded how easy his life is when he hears their tales of woe from the battlefield.
The You're Beautiful hitmaker forged a career in the armed forces before he found fame as a pop star, and he's still in regular contact with men he met during his time as a soldier.
And his pals always give him a reality check if Blunt complains about his job.
He says, "Whenever I feel that my day may be difficult at least I can call some of my former colleagues and current friends and hear from them in places like Afghanistan at the moment.
"The time they're having is incredibly hard. It so puts things into perspective."
