British singer James Arthur had to put his music career on hold in recent months after falling sick with a vocal cord infection.

The star scored a huge hit in his native U.K. last year (12) after winning Britain's The X Factor and releasing Impossible, which reached number one on the singles chart and sold more than one million copies.

Fans have waited nine months for a follow-up, and Arthur has now revealed he was forced to go on hiatus after contracting a nasty throat infection which prevented him from performing.

His new single You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You is ready for release, but won't hit stores until the singer is well enough to promote it.

He says, "Unfortunately we had a setback in release dates and when the song would go to radio because I got an infection on my vocal cords. I can't perform to my maximum ability and that unfortunately pushes promo and stuff like that back. The plans are that in a couple of weeks the song will go to radio and hopefully it will smash people in the face and they'll love it!"

The song has been tentatively slated for release on 20 October (13).
