The Brokeback Mountain star is serving as a member of the competition jury at the French festival and had been due to pull double duty by presenting a preview of his new Antoine Fuqua movie for attendees this week.

However, producers at the Weinstein Company had to axe the event at late notice as Gyllenhaal was unable to attend because it clashed with jury responsibilities, reports the New York Post.

Fellow jury members include Sienna Miler, Guillermo Del Toro and moviemaking brothers Joel and Ethan Coen, who are serving as presidents. The panel will select the festival's top honourees, including the winner of the prestigious Palme d'Or, which will be announced at the end of the annual bash on Sunday (24May15).
