Jackie Evancho, the 10-year-old singing sensation and star of hit US show 'America's Got Talent' teamed up with classical singer Katherine Jenkins to sing a duet of 'Silent Night' at the Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony in New York last night (30th November 2010), reports The Examiner.
Evancho, who finished as runner-up on the talent show, has been likened to Welsh singer Jenkins and the pair wowed the audience with a rendition of the festive classic at the city's Rockefeller Center. The evening also featured performances from the likes of Josh Groban, Jessica Simpson, Susan Boyle, and CHARICE. A heavily pregnant Mariah Carey took to the stage in a festive red coat to sing 'Oh Santa!' Earlier this week, it was announced that Evancho's EP 'O Holy Night' had debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard US 200 chart, selling more than 239,000 copies in its first week of sales.
Evancho's success means she is now the youngest ever solo artist to have a top 10 album, and the record has also gone straight to the top of the Classical Chart. 'O Holy Night' outsold new records from Rihanna, Kid Rock, and Keith Urban.
