Paramount's Paranormal Activity 2 scared up an astounding $41.5 million at the box office over the weekend, according to the studio's estimates, far exceeding analysts' predictions and setting a weekend record for a horror film. The previous record was held by last year's relaunch of the Friday the 13th franchise, which earned $40.5 million. That movie went on to earn $65 million domestically. Coming in second was Paramount's Jackass 3D , which, as expected, dropped nearly 60 percent to wind up with an estimated $21.6 million. Slipping into third place was Summit Entertainment's RED, which dropped just 30 percent in its third weekend with $15 million. Moving into wide release after opening in six theaters last week, Clint Eastwood's Hereafter came in fourth with about $12 million.
