TENACIOUS D star Jack Black was inspired to be a rock star when he heard religious leaders preaching about the evils of music.

Black discovered his love of music while listening to a religious tape belonging to his mother which highlighted the negative influence rock'n'roll has on world order.

Despite his mum's frequent attempts to steer him away from all things devil-related, Jack became an ardent rock fan after hearing an 'example' track on the cassette.

The singer and actor explains, "She brought back a tape of this weird preacher talking about the evils of rock'n'roll for me, before I'd really been exposed to metal.

"I listened to it and there's this guy saying all this fire and brimstone s***: 'Yeah, and if you listen closely to this next song you will see the devil's mischief.'

"You'd hear a few bars of (DON'T FEAR) THE REAPER, which was just enough for me to say, 'Oh my god, that's great!'"
