Troubled rapper Ja Rule has spoken for the first time about his looming prison sentence, insisting he is "disappointed" and "mad" at himself as he prepares to face life behind bars.
The Always On Time hitmaker is set to begin a two-year jail term in June (11) after he was convicted of weapons charges stemming from a 2007 arrest in New York.
Ja Rule - real name Jeffrey Atkins - has revealed he is prepared to serve his time, but feels bad for his wife Aisha and their children, Brittany, Jeffrey, Jr. and Jordan.
He tells, "I'm disappointed. I'm mad at myself. My daughter, she's 15 right now. These are her last couple of years. She's about to graduate from high school, and she's going to college. She needs her father. My boys really need me right now too, as well as my wife. They need Daddy, and Daddy f**ked up."
But the hip-hop star hopes his prison sentence will set an example to others and dissuade them from following in his footsteps.
He adds, "This is something that's bad, but there's gotta be some good that comes out of it. Even if there are other kids that look at me and say, 'Let me put my burner (gun) down.' Even if it's that, then there is something learned from my mistakes."
