Veteran movie producer Ismail Merchant has been buried in his hometown of Bombay, India.

Merchant, who alongside business partner James Ivory was one-half of production company MERCHANT IVORY, died in a London hospital aged 68 on Wednesday (25MAY05).

Production coordinator JAYA RAMACHANDRAN, who worked with Merchant for 10 years, says, "It was his wish to be buried in India, and he wanted to be buried near his mum."

It currently remains unclear why Merchant passed away, but he had been suffering from stomach problems over the last year (begs04).

Merchant is best known for producing critically acclaimed period drama films including Howards End and The Remains of the Day and was nominated for four Oscars, while Merchant Ivory won six Oscars.
