The veteran heavy metal band released The Book of Souls last year (15), marking their first offering in five years. The hiatus proved to be worth the wait after the record was nominated for Best Album by bosses at the British rock magazine.

They were also nominated for Best British Band, going up against Bring Me The Horizon, Enter Shikari, Biffy Clyro, and Asking Alexandria.

The latter two bands also scored two nods, with Biffy Clyro competing for Best Event (Edinburgh's Hogmanay), while Asking Alexandria will face off against Iron Maiden in the Best Album category for their album, The Black.

American band All Time Low is also a double nominee for Best Track (Missing You) and Best International Band, which also includes stiff competition from Metallica, PVRIS, A Day To Remember, and Fall Out Boy.

Other nominees include GUNS N' ROSES (Best Event - Las Vegas Reunion Shows), Panic! At The Disco (Best Track - Emperor's New Clothes), Alice Cooper (Best Radio Show - Nights with Alice Cooper), and twenty one pilots (Best Live Band).

The 2016 Kerrang! Awards will take place at the Troxy venue in London on 9 June (16).
