British actress Imelda Staunton is determined to avoid the pre-Oscars madness when it comes to dresses and gems by calling on a costume designer pal to help her out.

The VERA DRAKE star, who is nominated for a Best Actress prize, has steered clear of designers who want her to wear their outfits, because she can't be bothered with the fuss.

She says, "I've got a costume designer in London who does films and stuff and I just phoned him up and said, 'Ooh, listen, could we think of something to wear?'"

And she jokes she could end up looking like Bjork: "I could go as a duck or something. Something feathery."
