Imagine Dragons drummer Daniel Platzman has signed on to produce a new documentary about a revered playwright in Sierra Leone.
The Radioactive musician has teamed up with Man on Wire's executive producer Nick Fraser for Sierra Leone: An Artist’s Journey, a film featuring the uplifting story of playwright Charlie Haffner.
The documentary follows Haffner as he aims to stage the most ambitious play in his country's history, but is met with various hurdles as the impoverished nation continues to recover from the 2014 Ebola outbreak, not to mention the lack of a single permanent theatre in Sierra Leone.
"Charlie’s story is about leadership and the power of art to transform society," director Jonathan Ossoff says in a statement. "It's about Sierra Leoneans taking matters into their own hands"
Platzman is familiar with both the world of movies and Africa - he majored in film scoring while a student at the Berklee College of Music, and composed the original score for the award-winning TV series Africa Investigates, a docu-series fronted by African investigative journalists.
The filmmakers begin production on Sierra Leone: An Artist’s Journey this month (Aug16) and the project is slated for completion next summer (17).
