Veteran rocker Iggy Pop shed his wild man image by rescuing an injured stray cat on the set of new thriller Blood Orange.

The film's director/writer Toby Tobias has lauded the musician's acting skills and revealed he showed his softer side by saving a distressed animal while filming on the Spanish island of Ibiza.

Tobias tells Britain's Metro newspaper, "He was such a gentleman and a consummate professional with a deadly sense of humour. He had a huge amount to take on board, both physically and mentally, and yet he always had time for every member of the crew. He even found time to rescue an injured stray cat!"

Iggy Pop has appeared in a number of films over the years, including Cry-Baby with Johnny Depp, Tank Girl and cult movie Coffee and Cigarettes.
