Nu-metallers SUM 41 have teamed up with punk legend Iggy Pop to record a song on his forthcoming album SKULL RING.

The track, entitled LITTLE KNOW IT ALL, is also set to be the first single from the LUST FOR LIFE singer's longplayer, after Sum frontman Deryck Whibley dreamt up the song title.

He says, "I was singing, 'You're not the know it all.' Iggy came up with the idea of calling it 'Little Know It All'. He wanted something that rocks, so I tried to write something classic sounding."

And Whibley reveals that Iggy displayed a surprising amount of modesty when he called up the In Too Deep punk group.

Whibley adds, "(Iggy) said, 'I don't know if you know me, but I used to make a couple of records back in the day.' I said, 'I know who you are.' I told him I was from Toronto, and he said, 'Oh, I used to go to Toronto back when I was in a band. I was in a band called THE STOOGES - I don't know if you've ever heard of them?' I said, 'I've heard of the Stooges.'"

The two parties developed the song idea in an ultra-modern way - by sending computer files back and forth between each other, before heading into the studio in Los Angeles two weeks ago to record the track.

Sum's manager and producer GRIEG NORI gushes, "Nothing hammered home the fact that we were recording an Iggy Pop song until he sang it the first time. All of us got giggly and turned into little kids.

"As soon as I heard it come through the speakers, I was like, 'Oh my God, it's that voice. Holy f***!' The more I hear the song I think it's a hit."
