Lakers' guard Nick, 30, has been removed from the team's active roster by coach Byron Scott for this Sunday's game against the Houston Rockets, and will most likely skip their final six games.

The news comes after a video secretly recorded by teammate D'Angelo Russell emerged last month (Mar16), allegedly showing the player admitting to cheating on his Australian rap star fiancee Iggy Azalea, 25.

"Right now he’s not here with us mentally," revealed the head coach to Los Angeles Times sports reporter Mike Bresnahan during a press conference on Monday (04Apr16).

It is believed that the decision to bench the star over the last few games is due to Nick's impaired mental state following the scandal rather than rumours of a rift within the team.

"It has nothing to do with the chemistry," Scott said during practice on Monday. "It has everything to do with just basketball. Right now, I know what he's going through, and I know it's hard on him... there's no need for me to put him out there on the floor."

Meanwhile the Lakers' have struggled to do well this National Basketball Association (NBA) season, leading Scott to admit to reporters the recent controversy is "the icing on the cake as far as how tough it can be."

"His shooting has not been what it has been in the past,” the Lakers' coach admitted.

“We all as coaches, players and everybody feel for him and understand the situation he's in," he added.

As Nick faces a blow to both his personal life and career, rapper Iggy entertained the crowd of the iHeartRadio Music Awards with a performance of her hit song Team last Sunday (03Apr16).

She was spotted still wearing her engagement ring while walking the red carpet at the awards,in Inglewood, California.

The couple became engaged in June last year (15).
