The Wire star beat the flying mile record by reaching speeds of 180 miles (290 kilometres) per hour in a Bentley Continental GT Speed on the Pendine Sands in Wales, where legendary race driver Sir Malcolm Campbell set the target in 1927.

Elba says, "I'm absolutely elated to have broken the Flying Mile... It's an honour to have taken on the challenge and to successfully follow in the footsteps of the illustrious Sir Malcolm Campbell."

The feat was filmed for the star's upcoming motoring series Idris Elba: No Limits, which is set to air on the Discovery Channel later this year (15).
