The Luther actor's production company Green Door Pictures has launched a competition for U.K. residents looking to pen scripts for the small screen, called the Write to Green Light initiative. Its aim is to find and support new, fresh voices for British television, with participants drawn from a pool of resident writers who have developed their own material.

Ten scripts will be selected from all the entries, which will eventually be narrowed down to three finalists, who will read their scripts live in London. The winner will be announced after the reading and they will receive a paid opportunity with Green Door and Lionsgate U.K. to bring their script to life as a series.

“We are excited to be partnering with Lionsgate U.K. on Write to Green Light to search out and support new TV voices,” Idris said in a statement. “We are proud to support new and diverse talent at Green Door Pictures and look forward to discovering fresh writing voices, through this competition, to add to the family.”

Both experienced, professional writers and amateurs will be able to compete, with Idris joined by other big names like Lionsgate U.K.'s chief executive officer Zygi Kamasa sitting on the panel and judging the entries.

“Partnering with Idris and Green Door Pictures on this project underscores our ongoing commitment to nurturing and supporting creative talent. I’m excited to see what new talent will be discovered," Zygi added.

The competition is open now and will be taking submissions until 8 August (16), though is isn't yet clear where entries are being taken, therefore a second announcement giving more details is expected.
