The American rapper and actor took to Twitter on Sunday night (27Nov16), to share with fans that their pet bulldog had passed away following complications from knee surgery.

"Terrible News: This morning I lost my Best Friend," he wrote in a message. "Spartacus died from complication after surgery... He had cancer in his knee…So sad."

The six-year-old bulldog played a huge role in the lives of the celebrity couple, and even accompanied them to red carpet events and nightclubs. He also appeared in their E! reality show Ice Loves Coco, which first aired in 2011.

Coco, 37, also took to social media to express her sadness, posting a picture of her beloved dog.

"My heart is hurting tremendously," she captioned the snap. "Today Sparty died after knee surgery complications. He was my 1st baby with Ice. There'll never be another dog like him."

"I have been crying my brains out I'm shocked!" she added.

Since the birth of their baby girl, Chanel, who has her first birthday on Monday (28Nov16), Spartacus also took on the role of "big brother."

Ice-T, real name Tracy Marrow, and Coco manage an Instagram account for Spartacus and their other bulldog Maximus and they’ve flooded it with images of the dogs snuggling up to Chanel.

So it’s not surprising, that baby Chanel’s social media page was also updated with a heartfelt message following Spartacus' death, too.

"Lost my big brother, Spartacus, today after knee surgery," the post read. "He was a cuddler and a lover.. I had a short time with him here on earth but worth every minute of it."

Coco reassured fans that the dog’s Instagram page @spartandmax will stay live, "Because Max won’t stop posting pics".
