J.D. Lawrence claims all three Barbershop films, and spin-off TV series, feature similarities to scenes from Scissors, a play he wrote and toured America with in the late 1990s.

His play was set in a barbershop in a black neighbourhood, and Lawrence lists the similarities include characters and plot lines, according to TMZ.

He is suing Warner Bros. and Showtime and he wants to block the release of Barbershop: The Next Cut, which is set to hit cinemas in America on Friday (15Apr16).

The film features Ice Cube, Cedric the Entertainer, Eve, Common and Nicki Minaj.
