The Ride Along star is in negotiations to play Jefferson Davis the father of Miles Morales, the half-black, half-Latino version of Peter Parker, in the untitled film.

An actor has yet to be cast to voice Morales, but Donald Glover played the character in the animated TV series Ultimate Spider-Man in 2015. He has since landed a role in Spider-Man: Homecoming, but details surrounding his character are being kept underwraps.

Bob Persichetti and Peter Ramsey are directing the untitled animated project, which is set for release in 2018.

Meanwhile, Ice Cube was once rumoured to be in the running to play Peter Parker's newspaper boss J. Jonah Jameson in Spider-Man: Homecoming, but he dismissed the reports, saying, "If I'm not playing Spider-Man, I'm not doing s**t... I'm not about to play one of these side-busters."
