The 77-year-old Lord of the Rings star agreed to take charge of the nuptials of his good friend Patrick Stewart when he wed Sunny Ozell in 2013, but turned down Parker's offer due to his outlandish request.

The Silicon Valley tycoon, who was the co-founder of online music streaming website Napster and became the first president of Facebook, wed singer Alexandra Lenas in a forest in Big Sur, California, back in June, 2013, and guests at the ceremony, including Emma Watson and Sting, reportedly dressed up as characters from the fantasy film trilogy.

MCKellen, who starred as wizard Gandalf in all three of the Peter Jackson movies, and reprised the role for the director's The Hobbit films, told British newspaper The Mail on Sunday about the strange wedding request.

"I was offered $1.5 million (£1.1 million) to marry a very famous couple in California, which I would perhaps have considered doing but I had to go dressed as Gandalf," he explained.

"So I said, 'I am sorry, Gandalf doesn’t do weddings'."

The veteran actor insisted he did not know who was behind the huge offer, adding, "He was a very rich man, that’s all I know."

However, a source told the newspaper, "The offer to Sir Ian to officiate was made through a mutual friend of Sir Ian’s and Sean Parker."

The 36-year-old, who has a reported net worth of $2.4 billion (£1.8 billion), has yet to comment on the story.
