Young country singer Hunter Hayes called on the help of a voice coach last year (16) as allergies and acid reflux left him struggling to sing at times.
The Wanted singer admits he went through a "massive voice change" after trying to sing through a series of vocal issues, and decided it was time to call in an expert.
"I'm still trying to treat and fight (this)," he tells RollingStone.com "One thing affects the other, and (in turn) affect your voice. But working with a coach since last September (has helped me find) where my new voice sits, and how to use that and get rid of old habits. Not surprisingly, I've learned 75 per cent of it is all mental for me."
The coaching helped and now Hayes admits he feels "more comfortable" with his new sound.
"I'm still getting there," he adds. "I'm still in the process. All the work we put into it is really encouraging. I don't know if I'll ever be 100 per cent comfortable, but to feel better about myself as a human because I can sing when I want to sing is a big step."
