Hugh Jackman studied real accounts of child abductions from desperate dads to prepare for his role in new film Prisoners, and he reveals he learned valuable lessons about fatherhood in the transcripts.

The movie star, who has two adopted kids, plays a parent searching for his kidnapped daughter in the film, and admits his research gave him a real sense of what it must be like to lose your children.

The Wolverine star says, "One father said... 'The most maddening thing is knowing that your child is waiting for you and can't understand why you're not there to protect them, why you're not there to rescue them'.

"They're not waiting for the police to come, and the police, the whole time, are saying, 'Just let us do our jobs, just relax,' so you're rendered powerless in this place where you just know that you kid wants you and is depending on you."
