The 26-year-old dental student picked the construction manager after he proposed to her on the US TV show - a spin-off from American reality dating game show 'The Bachelor', which sees a man trying to find a wife, while the female runner-up becomes the woman to choose a potential husband on 'The Bachelorette'.
When proposing to Ashley on the show, J.P said: "I know that I've told you my biggest fear is falling in love with you and having my heart broken again and I still feel afraid. I also know that in order for me to overcome that fear I have to take a leap of faith and that's exactly what this is.
"All the time that we've spent together has been the happiest time of my life... I smile because of you."
Ashley took both J.P and fellow finalist Ben Flajnik to meet her family in Fiji before making her decision.
