The British actress won an Oscar for her portrayal of the British monarch in 2006 film The Queen, and she tackled the role again in West End show The Audience, which she is now performing on Broadway.

Executives at web streaming service Netflix are working on a new show called The Crown, which documents the Queen's 60-year reign, and fans had speculated that Mirren would be in the running for the lead part.

However, the actress is adamant she is not involved with the project.

She tells BBC Radio 4's Front Row show, "No, of course I'm not (in The Crown). We must all move on and me most of all. They'll find many wonderful actresses and they'll have a grand time... It was a compliment they didn't ask me, honestly, because they knew that would not be the right thing to do."
