Harry Potter star Warwick Davis paid a visit to a London school in a bid to encourage pupils to read.

The actor has teamed up with the London Evening Standard and e-reader company Nook for the Get London Reading campaign, and he visited Deptford Park Primary School earlier this week (begs07Oct13).

Davis was welcomed by a host of enthusiastic students as he read an extract from children's novel Diary Of A Wimpy Kid to 170 ten and eleven year olds.

Before the reading, the star told students, "I've realised as I've grown up and become an actor that reading's very important because I have to read scripts and learn lines.

"Even if you're not so into reading, it doesn't have to be fiction. Comic books, Guinness Book of Records, that's what I grew up reading because I love facts."
