Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has turned down the chance to take a trip into space.

The writer was offered a highly coveted seat aboard the Virgin Galactic suborbital aircraft, but admits she wasn't interested in making the once-in-a-lifetime mission as it was too expensive.

She confirms, "I was offered a seat," before joking, "For a mere £2 million, I could have been on the shuttle. But I turned it down."

Ashton Kutcher, music mogul Dallas Austin and actress Victoria Principal are among the wealthy passengers who have signed up to venture into space.
