Happy Mondays star Bez has written an open letter to Britain's Home Secretary asking for help to land a U.S. work permit following his conviction for domestic violence, according to a U.K. report.
The dancer/percussionist was found guilty of assaulting his former partner Monica Ward during a domestic dispute in August (10). He was arrested again in November (10) and fined after breaching a restraining order granted to his ex-girlfriend.
Bez - real name Mark Berry - insists he was acting in self defence and is now asking top U.K. politician Theresa May to help clear his name so he can work on a TV show in America, according to Britain's Daily Star.
In the letter, Berry writes, "I maintain my innocence. I have come to the conclusion that the courts have acted perniciously to be seen acting with zero tolerance towards domestic violence."
A spokesperson from Britain's Ministry of Justice said department officials will make a reply "in due course".
