Hollywood actress Halle Berry has signed up to play a campaigning lawyer in forthcoming movie TULIA, based on a controversial 1999 drug bust in Texas.

The OSCAR winner will play the lead in the film, set in the town of Tulia, where officials arrested 10 per cent of the black population and found neither narcotics or cash.

In 2002, the Texas governor pardoned almost all of the 46 people arrested.

Berry, 37, will portray a real-life NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF COLORED PEOPLE (NAACP) attorney who argued the arrests were the result of racial profiling.
