Gwyneth Paltrow is an Oscar-winning actress, author and businesswoman who has risen to become one of the world’s most famous names. At the age of 44, her career is still going strong, so let’s take a look back at some of the films that took her to the top of her game.

Gwyneth Paltrow

Iron Man (2008)
Co-starring: Robert Downey Jr., Jeff Bridges
About: Despite being a world-famous actress since the 1990s, Paltrow had seen something of a downturn in work and a dip in her career in the early 2000s. This all changed when she was cast in Iron Man, playing Pepper Pots, the close friend and later lover of billionaire superhero Tony Stark (Downey Jr).
No one could have foreseen the cinematic juggernaut that Iron Man would unleash. The origin story of the robotic suit-wearing superhero from Marvel’s golden era proved a smash box office hit, catapulting its stars back into the spotlight and kicking off a gargantuan network of dozens of blockbuster movies that have become some of the highest-grossing films of all time.

Se7en (1995)
Co-starring: Morgan Freeman, Brad Pitt
About: Se7en is an extremely memorable David Fincher Thriller that fittingly enough became the seventh highest-grossing movie of 1995. A dark, gritty and brutal neo-noir drama with a shocking ending, Freeman and Pitt star as detectives on the hunt for a ruthless serial killer who murders his victims in the fashion of the Seven Deadly Sins.
Paltrow plays Tracy, the wife of Detective David Mills (Pitt) who has recently been transferred to a new city and is partnered with soon-to-be-retired veteran officer William Somerset (Freeman). Their investigation of the murders leads them down a dark and thrilling path that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats for the full runtime.

Hard Eight (1996)
Co-starring: Philip Baker Hall, John C. Reilly
About: What else could follow Se7en but Hard Eight? This 1996 film was released the year after Se7en and saw Paltrow playing an altogether different type of female lead. The film was moderately-received, but has since become something of a cult classic – especially with the ever-growing popularity of poker and gambling today.
A In Hard Eight, Philip Baker Hall plays a veteran gambler named Sydney who gets caught up in and must attempt to diffuse a hostage situation involving down-on-his-luck John (Reilly) and a prostitute named Clementine (Paltrow) – things are much easier these days where you can easily pick the best of the many online casinos and you do not worry about any of that drama!

Shakespeare in Love (1998)
Co-starring: Joseph Fiennes
About: Paltrow’s breakout role came way back in 1998 when she played Viola de Lesseps in the multiple Academy Award-winning drama Shakespeare in Love. This netted seven Academy Awards, including Best Actress for Paltrow and Best Picture. She co-starred alongside Joseph Fiennes, who played the title role of William Shakespeare.
This film documents a fictional affair between de Lesseps and the world’s most famous playwright during his penning of perhaps the most famous love story in history, Romeo and Juliet. Many of the characters in the film are based upon real-life historical figures and it is full of allusions to The Bard’s works.
