Gwyneth Paltrow recently went on a "great" trip to Chicago.

The 'Country Strong' actress - who lives in London with husband Chris Martin and her two children Apple, five, and Moses, three - enjoyed a brief visit to the US city to visit a friend, and made some "amazing discoveries" while she was there.

Writing in her Goop newsletter, Gwyneth said: "I just took a quick trip to Chicago to visit my bff [best friend forever] from high school and man, was it great. I always love a visit to the Windy City and this time I made some amazing new discoveries and visited some old favourites."

However, The Vacation was not without problems - the blonde beauty had difficulty getting into one restaurant because the owner was too "punk rock" to answer the telephone for her to make a reservation.

She said: "The absolute highlight of my trip was eating at Schwa. Chef Michael Carlson and his brother Seth who run it are so punk rock that they don't even answer the phone, which makes getting a table difficult, yet weirdly fascinating. From the outside, Schwa looks like it has been condemned.

"The food is sublime. We did the 9 course tasting menu! It's off the hook."
