LATEST: A Los Angeles judge has given GEFFEN RECORDS bosses the go-ahead to release a planned GUNS N' ROSES best of compilation, despite the group's plans to block the project.

Singer Axl Rose and former bandmates Slash and Duff Mckagan teamed up to sue Geffen, claiming they gave record executives no permission to release the album, were not consulted on the song choices or remixing of material for the project.

But JUDGE DALE FISCHER has denied the band's request for a temporary restraining order, allowing Geffen to issue the album as planned.

A hearing on a motion for a preliminary injunction has been set for next month (APR04).

In a statement, Rose's management at SANCTUARY claimed the greatest hits package will "hinder the release of the band's long-awaited new studio album."
