Guillermo Del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth dominated the Ariels, Mexico's version of the Oscars, winning in nine categories, including best picture. Del Toro took the award for best director. Following a year in which Mexican directors received worldwide acclaim and success, the Ariels brought together on stage at Mexico City's Palace of Fine Arts opera house the three who received the most attention: Del Toro, Alfonso Cuarón, and Alejandro González Iñárrito. Del Toro is currently working in the U.S. on Hellboy 2: The Golden Army.
