Canadian singer Grimes stunned fans at a gig in New York on Wednesday (15Jun16), when she suddenly walked offstage in the middle of a song, citing a "disturbing" event from earlier in the day.
The Flesh Without Blood star, real name Claire Boucher, has been serving as the opening act for Florence & the Machine on their North American tour, but when Grimes took the stage at Brooklyn's Barclays Center, something was clearly wrong and her set wasn't as long as fans had hoped.
Before launching into her song World Princess Part II, the 28 year old told the crowd, "We just had a really disturbing thing happen to us today, so sorry if my voice is shaking, it’s just kind of a f**ked day... I'm having a little trouble keeping it together."
In fan-shot videos posted on social media, Grimes started singing the track, but then abruptly walked off the stage. She did not return and the house lights came up shortly after, indicating the end of her set.
Grimes has yet to comment on the odd incident or what sparked it.
Wednesday night's show marked the end of Grimes' run with Florence + the MAChine. She is scheduled to hit the stage at the O2 Academy in Birmingham, England next week (24Jun16), before performing at the Glastonbury festival on 26 June (16).
