Punk rockers Green Day have scored their first number one album in America with their first CD in four years.

The recording of rock opera album AMERICAN IDIOT almost split the trio but the hardship was worth it - it's the biggest sales week ever for group, with an opening week of 267,000 copies sold.

Country music also enjoyed another good sales week - New Zealand-born singer Keith Urban's new album BE HERE has debuted at number three with first-week sales of 148,000.

Nelly's joint releases SWEAT and SUIT and Tim Mcgraw's LIVE LIKE YOU WERE DYING album make up the rest of the new Billboard chart top five.
