Grateful Dead stars Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann are reuniting to celebrate the iconic rock band's 50th anniversary.
The quartet will headline three mega-gigs at Chicago, Illinois' soldier Field in early July (15) with guests including the group's former touring member Bruce Hornsby and Phish star Trey Anastasio.
Announcing the news via an online video on Friday (16Jan15), Trixie Garcia, the daughter of the band's late leader Jerry Garcia, says, "This year is the 50th anniversary of the band we all know and love - the Grateful Dead. There's going to be a celebration.
"This is an amazing American rock band, being celebrated on America's birthday. It's so significant that they're doing the shows in Chicago, a central location for all Deadheads (fans) to gather, and it's also the last place the Grateful Dead played together in 1995."
But Weir reveals there will be a bittersweet element to the reunion concerts, telling Billboard.com, "These will be the last shows with the four of us together."
And Lesh adds, "It is with respect and gratitude that we reconvene the Dead one last time to celebrate not merely the band's legacy, but also the community that we've been playing to, and with, for 50 years."
