Despicable Me 2 is living up to expectations. So is The Lone Ranger -- but not in a good way. Universal's animated sequel opened with a gigantic $34.3 million on Wednesday -- including $4.7 million in Tuesday-night previews. It now seems like to hit $125-130 million by Sunday, according to box-office analysts. The film also received an A- Grade from first-night moviegoers polled by Cinemascore. On the other hand, Disney's exhumation of The Lone Ranger is expected to slip away with even less than pundits had predicted. The film earned less than $10 million on Wednesday, including $2 million from Tuesday-night previews and is now expected to end the Independence Day holiday with less than $50 million, a disaster of the first order for a film that reportedly cost $250-300 million to produce. It follows last week's setback for Sony, when White House Down, which reportedly cost about $150 million to make, opened with just $24.9 million.
