Gordon Ramsay is planning a second honeymoon - so he can compete in a triathlon.

The 45-year-old chef plans to mark his wedding anniversary with a winter holiday to Hawaii, but hasn't admitted to wife Tana that he has ulterior motives for planning the romantic break.

He said: ''Here's the ploy, we got married, we had a winter wedding, it's our anniversary on the 21st of December so we went off to Hawaii.

''So I said to her last week, 'Sweet, do you fancy going out back out to Maui?' She said, 'I'd love to go to Maui. When can we go?' I said, 'Well let's go around Christmas time and have another little honeymoon out there'.

''What I haven't told her is that there's an Ironman taking place. So, you know, as long as I can get out there and spend eight days with my dear lady. But she needs to sort of let me go for a day, and I'll do Ironman at the same time. So I plan all these little trips.''

Gordon - who has Megan, 14, twins Jack and Holly, 12, and 10-year-old Matilda with Tana - believes it is important to exercise regularly and is competing in a race with his children soon as he doesn't want them to have weight problems.

He explained to Absolute Radio breakfast show host Christian O'Connell: ''I'm fed up with the problems with everyone blaming kids when they're obese. It's not the kids, it's the adults.

''So you have to set the precedents. Exactly that. So, you know, that's the responsibility of being a proper parent.

''We've got the Royal Parks Half Marathon coming up in a couple of weeks time, the kids are going in for it, and say, 'Oh dad do I have to run this 5k?' I say, 'Trust me, I'll be running in front of you, and dangling breakfast on a rod. If you're going to go out and have an eggs Benedict or a full English breakfast, you're going to run 5k before you have that breakfast. Got it dude?' ''
