LATEST: Country singer Glen Campbell has been charged with assault and drink-driving over an alleged hit-and-run collision.

Campbell was formally charged with aggravated assault, drunken driving, extreme drunken driving and leaving the scene of an accident, according to the Maricopa County Attorney's office in Arizona, America.

The 67-year-old RHINESTONE COWBOY star was arrested on 24 November (03) at his Phoenix home after a collision at a nearby intersection. No-one was hurt, but a witness followed Campbell's car, called police and directed them to his home.

Breath tests showed Campbell had a blood-alcohol level of 0.20 per cent - the legal limit being 0.08.

The singer apologised for the incident last week (ends28NOV03), blaming the arrest on the accidental mixing of alcohol and a prescription anti-anxiety drug.
