Retired movie legend Gina Lollobrigida is selling off her jewellery to raise funds for stem cell research.

A total of 22 pieces from the 85 year old 's collection will be auctioned off at Sotheby's in Geneva, Switzerland in May (13), and Lollobrigida plans to hand the proceeds to a fund to set up a specialist hospital.

She tells Reuters, "This will not be the end of the jewellery but it will be something that does good, helping a cause that is very important to me. I want to leave a souvenir of my life."

A pair of pearl and diamond pendant earrings made in 1964 and a diamond ring are expected to sell for up to $1 million (£625,000) each, while a 1954 diamond necklace/bracelet combination is worth up to $500,000 (£312,500).
